Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr.Tahir-ul-Qadri clearing misconception of some western writers and Terrorists & extremist people reagarding The Verse of Sword Jihad in Holy Quran

There is another confusion which is normally and frequently used by the terrorists,and the extremists people and they quote a verse of Holy Quran from Sura at-Tawbah  Chapter 9  Verse 5 and the same verse has created some confusions in some western authors and writers and they say this is Ayat as Saif  The verse of Sword all those references there were 70 to 120 verses banning taking up arms in Makan period  when the permission of self defense war came .

so the extremists people terrorist and some of the  western writers  who are again confused  and have no clarity on the subjects  so they say that this verse of Sura at-Tawbah repealed all verses which were  revealed for self defense and this was the verse to just kill the none Muslims ,and the terrorists of  today the khawarjite terrorist they take the wrong benefit and they exploit the meaning of this verse and  take it out of the context ,misinterpret it, so i want to clarify this misunderstanding from both sides from Muslims side and western sides .

now i am analyzing this verse of sword

5. So when the sacred months have passed, then kill the idolaters (for the violation of peace treaty) wherever you find them and capture them, imprison them and lie in wait for them at every place of ambush (to catch and besiege them). So, if they repent, establish Prayer and start paying Zakat (the Alms-due), then leave their way open. Surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Ever-Merciful.

This verse is verse No 5 in Chapter 9 so we have to be very clear  that we cant segregate or isolate particular verse taking out of the context  and then interpreting it in specific situation and we have try to understand that every  single verse in the context of  Quran and in the historical background  in which  it was revealed

so this the verse of chapter 9 Sorah  بَرَاءَةٌ Sorah Tuaba ,this is the chapter of renunciation  absolution ,this was revealed in 9th year of Hijrah ,9th year of Holy Prophet(PBUH) migration that’s why they say this was the last verse, they have repealed all verses of peace and commandments of treaties, commandments of self defense, it has become an absolutely mandatory on Muslims (mazallah astagfriullah) just to kill the non-Muslims,

this is just biggest silly thing or argument by the terrorists people,  this whole chapter was revealed in 9th year of migration  and its first word is that the treaty of peace  which was made in Hudabiya in 6th of Hijra when Holy Prophet(PBUH)  went there with 1500 companions and he was not allowed to enter  Makah  and this situation ended up in peace and truce for 10 years ,no war truce

so there was  specific condition ,article in that treaty, written article that neither Makan nor Madinan would attack on each other nor there allies and none of these two states Makah or Madina  would be allowed to help any Alley in order to attack on Madina or on allies of Madina ,in the same way Madina would not be allowed to help there allies in order to attack any allies of Makah so this was the comprehensive treaty of 10 year of no war.

what happened soon after this treaty which took place one year before there were  Banu Bakar there was very big tribe  among the allies of Makans  and there was a big tribe Banu Khuza he was ally  of Madinans ,

so Banu Bakar by breaching the treaty of peace  Banu Bakar attacked on Banu Khuza and committed a grave act of killing massive public massacre in Makah  ,and Makans provided them the arms and money and they psychically participated in this attack and killing, so makans breached the treaty of peace  by this attack and collective act of killing of trube Banu Khuza ,so the treaty of Hudaibia  was breached  this sorah the chapter 9 was revealed in this historically context

up till this time the breach of treaty was done by makkans  now Quran is declaring  annulments or renunciation of that treaty of peace which was done in hudabaya under which both sides were bound  and responsible not to wage war against each other or against there allies now بَرَاءَةٌ مِّنَ اللّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ God and his Prophet are announcing that this treaty has been renouciated or canceled now there is no liability on both sides , this the the announcements of no liability remaing after the breach has taken place by the Makans this was the whole sorah ,

next verse which is very important is  . وَأَذَانٌ مِّنَ اللّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ end of verse verse no 5  God commanded Holy Prophet(PBUH) since the treaty has been breached so there should be no warfare unless there should be properly publicly announced  so 2nd and 3rd verse they include the public announcements of the breach of treaty  and the both parties have come out of the responsibilities of  ..because of Makanas breach of treaty

2nd is . وَأَذَانٌ مِّنَ اللّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ So it is announced  that treaty is no more in existence

next thing which was done that is verse no 4 and it is stated  that those who have breached the treaty ..but still there are some tribes they were allies of Makans  they have not yet breached there allies so Quran says إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ عَاهَدتُّم مِّنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ there allies those allies who have not  participated in  the breach so the the treaty of peace would remain intact and applicable  as far as those tribes are concerned because they are peace loving tribes, so madina will honor that treaty for them so   this was 3rd article

then 4th article was only those makans and his allies who initiated the war against  madina and madinan Allies since they particularly they have breached the treaty  so this renocination and annulments of treaty would effect only there position ..they would be  no more under guarantee because they have breached that ultimatum which was given  after breach of trust that we will not fight against  you in spite of your breach ,4 month ultimatum was given  فَإِذَا انسَلَخَ الْأَشْهُرُ الْحُرُمُ

and in Quran it comes  فَسِيحُواْ فِي الْأَرْضِ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ so 4 month ultimatum was given in the same way as UNO gives the ultimatum to Iraq and many other countries   to those who abuse human rights & violate the treaties of peace.

So the ultimatum of 4 months was given and it was stated  that we are giving you the period of 4 months  so that  you may come back to peace again ,you may  restore the peace ,you  may revise your policy , if the treaty of peace is restored and policy of peace is again made

so these 4 months were given for peace making and there would be no war  and even after 4 months if u don’t revise the policy and   still you  prepare attacking on us then this verse 5  was revealed then you are allowed to fight them as a defensive war ,and again this was defensive war .

and some people among the terrorists & and some  misunderstanding in the west they think that this verse has repealed all verses which  were communicated before that is wrong  this verse did not repeal any verse, this verse just repealed   the treaties which were already breached by the Makans this was the abrogator or repealer of the treaties between  Madinans and Makah and this was not repealer of the verses all   commandments of Quran remian the same  for defensive war entering  into

and this is reported by by Abdullah ibn Abas ,he says the same thing Adahab al  Muzahin  says the same thing,Ali bin Talha says the same thing , they say that this verse of sword elaborates that you can not take the sword up against those people who have not breached  the treaty of peace so it was still for those  who are peace loving   countries and those who are not going to attack you  u cant war Any kind of u cant fight with them .

and again if there is war going on the same verse tells “

6. And if any of the idolaters seeks asylum with you, provide him with protection until he listens to the Words of Allah. Then escort him to his haven. This is because these people do not possess the knowledge (of the Truth).”

it tells that if war is going on and state of war is restored, during warfare it is stated if any person non-combatant  belonging to a state which you are fighting which is fighting if that non-combatants comes to you, you are under an obligation to  provide Peace and security  to him

verse no   6. And if any of the idolaters seeks asylum with you, provide him with protection until he listens to the Words of Allah. Then escort him to his haven. This is because these people do not possess the knowledge (of the Truth).

soon after immediate   after here the verse 5 said that if you are under obligation to provide safety and security to all  non combatants so this is the Quranic explicit  commandment to provide safety and security to all non combatants

verse no 12  again said

“And if after making promise they break their oaths and taunt you with sarcasm in your Din (Religion), then wage war against (those) chieftains of disbelief. Surely their oaths are not worth any regard, so that they desist (from their mischief-mongering).“

this verse again  says only fight them who commit aggression on you ,who fight with you, who impose war on you  except those people who stick to there agreement of peace that don’t  fight them this is the verse no 12 of the same Chapter .

so this was a an analysis of the whole subject  of the Verse of Sword
